The end & good riddance to all our business accounts over the last thirty odd years or so. A quiet still day with no wind so took the opportunity to finish burning the lot together with some leaves.
Took some turning to get rid of all the tightly packed files but eventually they have all gone.
The builders were having a bonfire too & shouted across, 'our bonfire's better than yours!'
Three good things:
1. NZ visitors have gone to the Lakes with Garth & Cathy, she misses her brothers in NZ so good to spend time together.
2. My pearls are back from the menders, brilliant service, all done in a week & cheap.
3. Our neighbours have had white lights put all over one of their trees, it does look very pretty.
There is nothing like a bonfire to ger rid of all the paper rubbish -- unfortunately here we have to be very careful being on the edge of the town !
I am really feeling for Christmas now - a lot of the houses around are starting to put their lights up --but I shall restrain myself until the 1st weekend in December !! ( that's in a week's time !! ) Where does the time go !!
We did something similar at the weekend with the childrens' 'O' and 'A' Level books and a king size mattress as the base! Very satisfying but as you say the 'tightness' of the paper took some turning.
@beryl we don't put our outside tree lights on until 1st December Beryl & inside tree until the week before the week before Christmas! I do like them up but the edge of the excitement goes away if you put them up too soon! These lights look permananent to me, like the ones you see in pub gardens on all year round. I might be wrong but each light goes along the brNch, you know what I mean? Luckily they aren't near us as we are pretty well seperated down here. I do like lights though.
@motherjane Yes they do need tuning with a pitch fork, surprisingly resistant to lack of air until you turn them over. Great feeling though Jane! The mattress would leave a few springs! We just had file hinges!
@jesperani@julzmaioro yes it was funny as I had looked over & thought to myself the exact same thing but wasn't going to say anything, the builders were in good form...Friday night!
It is a problem as to what to do with old files. We have a paper rubbish disposal at our recycle centre which is handy. I know burning them leaves a huge pile of ash too! Love the smell of burning leaves in the Autumn!
@maggiemae well we had to burn them Maggie, quite sensitive stuff such as bank agreements, bills, receipts etc all stuff to do with our business, great relief to get rid, we are liberated!
Fires like this are absolutelynot allowed in the NL. There are special businesses where you can bring all your paper you want to get rid of. You can be sure they destroy it safely.
I bet the Christmas lights look nice, but still too early for me. Some people here have decorated the outside of their houses with lights etc as long ago as the beginning of this month. Ugh.
@gijsje Really Bep, I saw quite a few fire smoke in and around the area today. Wouldn't be allowed in the towns but out here in the country no problem they wouldn't like you butprning anything such as tyres etc though. We only burnt this as it was sensitive stuff normally it gets recycled,ed. just a small pile of ash tonight.
What a great job done Pat and bonfire is so much more fun than shredding.
We're not allowed bonfires here but my friend in the next village 2 miles up the road is happy to share hers so we can still burn our rubbish.
