Rossall School by happypat

Rossall School

A visit to the dentist again today re my damaged front teeth.
On the way back I decided to have a walk along the seafront at Rossall Beach.
Rossall School is a private co-educational day & boarding school between Clevelys & Fleetwood.
A sister college to Marlborough College it has its own astronomical centre & starlab planetarium plus it's very near the Nautical College.
It's right up to the sea wall & I must say although it's an excellent School I would have hated to leave my little darlings in this rather bleak spot!

Three good things:
1. Good news re teeth, not to costly to do repair.
2. A lesson learnt!
3. A massive amount of money to be spent on the Winters Garden in Blackpool, 17 million by the government alone!
It does look somewhat bleak! I love your composition though, including that red lifebelt or whatever it is.

While the setting looks a bit severe, I'm certain the education is phenomenal!
So happy for you that the news from your dentist was positive!

A bleak photo is a good photo! Good fence here too but the youngies could climb over rather easily! Perhaps the school is so good they don't want to escape! Hope that dentist does a good job and the new bit doesn't fall out after eating a ginger nut!

Glad to hear Blackpool is getting a boost - my friend who is in charge of Blackpool art will be very happy I'm sure! And you're right about the school - probably lovely in summer but not at all sure about winter!! Mind you in the old days harsh was what the rich wanted for their sons. Did you watch The Lost Prince about George V's youngest son who was sent out of sight due to epilepsy? His older brothers who were too young to be likely heirs were sent off to dreadful naval colleges with freezing showers and extra harsh treatment because they were princes. Child cruelty of course!

Love the damp mood and pop of red. Hope the dentist visit was a success.

Very Dickensian!

Beautiful shot

@judithg Of course & I feel sorry for the little beggars! My three siblings all went to boarding school, two loved it but the other absconded! Was what my parents friends did in those days but my mum hated it! Luckily I was sent to the convent in Preston & got to go home each day. No I didn't watch that programme, sounds horrific, they were so ashamed of anything like that then special royalty, silly fools!

@maggiemae b I hope so too maggie, I have an another appointment next week for work to be done! All to do with my head banging when I fainted! There is a stunning chapel at that school, you can see it in the photo.

@peggysirk yes he said it was no problem patching me up Peggy! Not too expensive either! Yes a good school apparently, some of my B&Bers have children there, lots of oversea parents!
January 23rd, 2017
@judithdeacon Yes a lifebelt Judith!
January 23rd, 2017
@jgpittenger very bleak, I couldn't sleep in my bed with that sea over the wall, it gets rough too in the winter!
January 23rd, 2017
It does look a very bleak school. My step grandfathers brother attended there probably about 80 years ago

It does look a bit dismal .. but I guess if the sun was shining it would be different .. pleased your tooth is fixed with out too much cost,,,

Good use of the fence to add perspective and interest in the foreground.

You have captured the bleakness of the surroundings so well , but a great added interest of the wooden fence and the pop of red adding interest to the scene . . fav

gosh that must have been chilly, nice view of the school. when we come down we walk along this part of the prom

Beautiful view of the school. I know you find it bleak, but I think this imposing school fits the surroundings so well.
Congrats on making both TP and PP

I agree it does look bleak. Like something out of an old novel. I would be afraid my little cherub would fall off the edge into the sea. Glad you can get your teeth fixed before your holiday

It looks huge and strict! Nice image.

Even with the pop of red it still looks a bit bleak. I am so glad I didn't send my girls to boarding school, they just travelled with us when we moved with the RAF. Luckily the RAF always had primary schools on camp when they were small and overseas they went to SCEA (Service Children's Education Authority) schools where we lived. When we came to Australia they finished school at the local school.

Great splash of red Pat. Boarding school? My youngest was a chorister so it had to be. Not enough hours in the day to travel as well! He enjoyed it as did most of the others.

@thistle @onewing Yes boarding schools are very useful for parents moving about lots but not for everyone. I always liked the sound of a boarding school in these children's books...Mallory Towers etc! but it depends on the child. I think it's harder on the parents sometimes. The parents I have staying & have a son at Rossall are based in Nigeria, he has something to do with oil I think. The RAF solution sounds good Babs.

@cruiser yes that's what I thought Chris, makes the smiles a bit tidier! Just the two front teeth chipped where I knocked them.
January 24th, 2017
@farmreporter thanks Wendy, it was worth the walk along the beach in the freezing cold!
January 24th, 2017
Bleak indeed; and even slightly mysterious. I quite like the look - but then I'm a fan of the old Dickensian films, novels, etc.
January 24th, 2017
Not that I'd send one of my kids there, of course ;-)
January 24th, 2017
Great shot of this impressive looking school!
