I walked to the village this morning for our veg & fruit.
There was queuing outside as you can see, there isn’t much room inside.
I wasn’t happy today.....she is very busy & providing veg boxes £20 each delivered plus plants too but she has not provided a plastic screen around the till. I only thought about it when the chap was putting my stuff in my rucksack & I thought..oooh keep back far too close! No mask even so it’s good old Booths for me next time where every care is taken & plenty of room & plastic screens everywhere!
I do try & do my shopping locally but I didn’t feel safe.
Three good things:
1. I rang for Harry to come & pick me up half way home....bag was heavy & I was tired from my walk the day before.
2. Our swing seat.
3. I had the big hosepipe out tonight watering.
Masks and screens are required in Texas, for now. We have started slowly opening things up, very slow and very careful. So hopeful for our summer to be as normal as possible.
@louannwarren I hope it works Lou Ann....all very worrying....not much sign of normality here although we are going to be told what the next stage is on Sunday. There will be no normality until there is a vaccine...it’s not going to go away sadly.
All this is worrying Pat , I have self isolated since the beginning and Gary has only used the two supermarkets since the beginning. Both seem to have the marked distancing ,queuing , sprayed and wiped trolley handles and plastic screening around the cashiers ! I am dying to go to do my own shopping - - just to get those things that are not on the shopping list !!
@julzmaioro It’s been so dry here Julz....just watering our troughs & pots. We haven’t had any decent rain since we came back from NZ...it’s been lovely weather!
Funny that we don't feel safe - its like when seatbelts became mandatory and felt odd - now we don't feel safe until its put on. The UK death rate is awful and there should be some checkups being done with retailers!
We have plastic screens everywhere here too and even though our restrictions are eased slightly I am still wary of being anywhere that is too exposed. I think it will be quite a while before things feel normal again.
this is going to be the norm Pat, social distancing and queues for shops . OK when it's sunny , not much fun in the rain . I understand why you did not feel safe and you are right to boycott the shop ,
I read the most dangerous spot in shopping is at the cash register, not only for the proximity but the number of people who have touched the area. Hope you did stay safely distant!
@beryl I know what you mean Beryl, it’s the looking round & just getting what you fancy! Apart from that first two weeks of isolation when we came back from NZ we have done our own shopping mostly. Can’t keep asking people but we only go every two weeks or so for bigger shop & use local where possible although the bigger Booths does the best with the social distancing. It will be like this a long time.
I do think we are very lucky here as nowhere I go is crowded & plenty of space to keep apart, we are so grateful we have that. Apart from that the quieter life suits us!
@maggiemae Yes I remember that time so well, going on the school run the first time...feeling quite tied in but now you would never dream of driving without your seatbelt on! Good analogy!
@phil_howcroft Sadly yes until there is a vaccine it will be like this...our doctor told me last week that the future for doctors appointments is telephone consultation whenever possible.
@beryl I did my first supermarket shop in 2 months this week. Very well organised. I love to use the local facilities- our milkman delivers fruit, veg and not, and the village store is there but very small and social distancing is not adhered to. They think if they don’t look at you it is ok. I know what you mean about the non shopping list items- so did my purse!
Oh Pat, I agree - we have become used quite quickly to being afraid of people's proximity, but rightly so as this virus is still very much out there at the moment. My Farm Shop is big but only allows three customers through the doors at a time and the tills are now covered in perspex. You have to do these things the safest way you can. Take care.
R enjoys and always does the food shop. As he is our Chef, loves cooking and sourcing something different, new etc., l'd be an idiot to object. I've tried...vainly, suggesting that if I was alone, l'd have to and so should keep my hand in. He cooks and looks after the garden, l look after him, Mitzi & Chania (cat) and our sanity;-)
@s4sayer Sounds the perfect arrangement to me...we all have our strengths....I would love a meal made for me! Harry is excellent in the house & can do anything but he only does basic cooking when he’s on his own!
@casablanca I was cross because she is making much money but hadn’t taken the trouble to install a Perspex sheet for our safety & her staff. If I have to go in dare I mention it...I might do!
Gosh - I wouldn't want to be her staff.... such a shame when they are providing such a valuable service. Do they do deliveries?
Lovely pic of your part of the world :)
