With reference to Rachel’s Choc Chip Pecan tarts by @taffy we were discussing the different ingredients & way the measurements are described & weighed differently in various countries. @pamknowler & I were wondering what Corn Syrup was & discussing the various syrups. I took this photo in Booths while shopping yesterday.
They aren’t normally as grouped together as this so I think they must have known we were talking about them!
Three good things:
1. A long wet muddy walk with Connie this afternoon. We were glad to get back but we feel better for doing it.
2. It was interesting walking round our old stomping ground & seeing how things had changed. Stupidly I left my phone/camera in the car hence the syrup shot!
3. A nice warm house to come back to even though the heating was off....such a change from our old house!
A lovely array of syrups with the Lyles golden syrup being so familiar since my childhood ! One recipe suggests maple syrup Pat -- I do not use syrup very often (diabetic) ! but I have always a squeezy Lyles in the pantry .
And I’ve never heard or a Booth’s or seen “Date syrup” but my Safeway syrup aisle is mostly maple, or imitation maple, and berry like blackberry and raspberry, or apricot flavored. I only use corn syrup when making pecan pie.
@tinley23 I usually shop there most times but must say they have been excellent during this covid time...always someone there to clean the trolly handles...at Aldi you have to do your own!
We don't have much of a selection of maple syrups - just the artificial and the real! I would like to buy the 45% less sugar one! You will not the differences between homes and hope its all good. A warm house to come home to is so good!
@maggiemae Gas central heating maggie it’s a revelation although when the place is done up are hoping it will be very insulated & south facing warmth so not much extra needed. Wood burning stove for winter & underfloor heating! We won’t know ourselves!
@maggiemae It will still all be gas even the underfloor heating maggie, our heating costs will be halved as it’s such a warm house anyway & with all that south facing glass, the architect reckons we won’t even need a wood burner but we’re having one! 😍. Heating costs in our country are a big thing as we have long winters & full central heating is normal. We don’t need air conditioners in summer though!!
I don't recall ever seeing date syrup before!
We still don't have central heating in our house. Just have the gas fire and a gas wall heater in the front room. I love my hot water bottle in Winter!
