Something on 365 yesterday reminded me of the pigeons in Trafalgar Square & I remembered this photo.
I must have been about eleven here & I can remember the excitement of this day still for a couple of reasons.
First time in London & first time away on my own with my mum.
I am wearing my school scarf & beret which were green but not the coat...
My mum is on the right & her friend Phyllis on the other side.
We stayed with Phyllis & she later married a farmer who lived in the then lovely country of Rhodesia. She had a lovely life there bringing up her family but of course it all went wrong in the early1960’s.
It is quite possible I have used this photo before....I forget over the last eleven years & it’s too long to scroll back.
Three good things:
1. Our shrubs have arrived from Ireland beautifully packed in straw in a long box.
2. The fencing chap has been tonight to survey the job.
3. Ten delicious clementines from the veggie shop.
Yes I used to love feeding the pigeons in Trafalgar Square. I remember taking our children there and still enjoying it as an adult! Well done for finding this lovely memory.
@brennieb Yes completely up I would love a week in London on my own exploring & going to galleries just by myself. I loved it when we had a 365 meet up a good few years ago...went places off the beaten track a bit!
What a great photo - I have a similar one of myself , cousin Myra my uncle Will ( Myra's dad , my dad's brother ) and Aunty Hilda (dad's sister) and Uncle Ken who lived down in Oxford . The three of us Myra ,uncle W and I had gone to Oxford for a week's holiday . , Aunty Hilda and Uncle Ken took us for a day to London !
Marvellous memory here! I grew up visiting Trafalgar Square to feed the pigeons. It was a highlight of any trip to Town, as we always called it. The lampposts in the background are just so wonderful too. Back in the days when they still looked like they came from Narnia!
What a precious shot! My Mum met my Dad on a church vacation and within 6 months they were on their honeymoon to his home of Rhodesia where his family had emigrated from London....!
And such lovely memories.
You look so much like your Mum.
