The fields on the right here are destined to be a 380 housing estate. A new school, medical centre & convenience store plus one hectare of small industrial site.
Almost doubling the size of our village with the amount of new housing being built over the last four years or so.
The worst thing in our opinion is that our local agriculture society that runs the show sold this land. They purchased eight more acres next to the show ground but this is good agriculture land…they should know better. Also they have bought two large agricultural greens fields along the A585 because they know it’s future building land.
There are a lot of unhappy faces!
Three good things:
1. My cough is on the mend!
2. I went in to Poulton to pick my jeans up….got the day wrong but she did them while I did my bit of shopping.
3. The tarmac guy has been to measure up but will be a while before he comes as they are so busy.
Gosh! A sad thing happening in many areas. I understand that more housing is needed, but I do wonder about whether the infrastructure of many of the sites chosen are really suitable for a large influx of people.
@tinley23 Well they are supposed to be building new infrastructure but it’s always at the end…. It should be first! Plus we need to grow more crops to feed us all.
So sorry - Money talks I suppose Pat ! not very loyal to their own agriculture life and community !! So distressing -- it is happening all over the land - I very soon can not be called "a green and pleasant land "
That is sad.. but seems to be the way of it..
Last week was the last of my Swim Fit classes as the developers are moving in housing and shopping centre.. I guess it is progress but sad when it is taking over productive land..
I suppose we are all NIMBYS but we do get used to the housing eventually. I can tell the new folk as they don’t smile & say Good Morning etc as we locals do. 😳
We have so many houses benig built all over Cornwall with price tags, that no local can afford........so just more 2nd home for the rich folk from up-country...with no additions to school, shops, Doctor or Dental services or local shops........
What a shame. One thing David and I say in situations like this is 'follow the money' It is the same in our area. We have seen lots of changes in our area over the last 25 years too, but I reckon we are in a position now where no more land will become available for housing. We have had lots of developers over the years on our local Council and they pass laws that land can be freed for housing, just to line their pockets. Luckily we still have lots of State Forests that can't be built on.
That’s quite a big development! It’s a shame, but they keep saying we need more houses, mostly they don’t build the infrastructure to go with the developments, so other amenities & services get stretched!
