We had a Lady Farmers meeting at the beginning of the month & the guy who owns this shop came to give us a talk. He brought several samples of cheeses for us to sample but the most interesting part was the way they decided to buy the shop. Like the Queen they had had a bad year( I cant just remember the term she used) John & his fiance had to bring their wedding forward as her father was dying, he died before the wedding anyway, they had booked a walking week in Devon for their honeymoon but days before the wedding she broke her leg !! To cut a long story short a friend offered them a cottage near Kirby Lonsdale & while the were there they saw this shop for sale , her father had left her money & the rest is history !
It is so lovely inside & they have just won the independent cheese shop of Britain award. Because they hadn't room for their piano upstairs it sits in the shop & someone came in one day & played & continues to this day. They have now moved out of the top flat as they have two children but it is for rent as a holiday cottage.
Above the piano there is a sign saying''Please do not feed the pianist he is paid Peanuts '' !
Annus horribilis!! What a great story. I have a fantasy about owning a shop like this (and travelling Italy to find the best olives etc!) Owning one in Kirby Lonsdale is beyond fantasy!! So glad it's a success and a bad year had a silver lining - maybe her dad was steering things...
@judithg Thats the word Judith !!! You may be right about her dad, some things are meant to be!! he was a Financial advisor before so I expect he was glad to get out of that !!
Love the sign too!
