We had a wonderful meal last night thank s to Garth & Cathy who took us to The Inn at Whitewell in the Forest of Bowland.
This is a Duchy of Lancaster estate & the Inn belongs to the Queen who is of course the Duke of Lancaster.
It is a real homely place & is very popular with the hunting , fishing, shooting people but not at all flash. Last night there were dogs sitting next to the fire & I don't think anyone would bother if you went inside with your boots on.
Flag floors & old furniture & if you stay the night in one of the magnificent bedrooms & pay an extra £6 you can have a peat fire in your room......oh the luxury of a fire in the bedroom!
These are shooting fishing socks for sale, knitted on round needles & made of merino wool they cost £85 a pair!!!!!!
The photo shows the Queen on her last visit in 2006.
They look too pretty to be used for shooting and fishing - perhaps they're for the girls - I won't be buying at that price anyway. Glad you enjoyed your meal.
So the Queen is a Duke and not a Duchess? Interesting.
I would love to actually walk around there. Especially if they let the dogs in. My Corgis would love to meet the Queen.
It sounds like a splendid estate! I would love to see it for myself someday. I'm intrigued by the shooting/fishing socks in lovely pastel colors. The ones I order for Tom (and myself for warmth) from Orvis are very dull and boring grey tweed. :)
Wonderful background story. So the Queen is the Duke of Lancaster? Yay, feminism rules!! I'd love a pair of those socks! But definitely not at that price!!
Sounds a really lovely place to go..........just love those socks, what gorgeous colours, might have a go this winter!! Turning the heel is tricky though! I remember when the Queen Mother was the Duke and in charge of the Cinque Ports down this way, tradition is a strange thing sometimes!
Oooh sounds fab - can't afford the socks though especially as we would be down to one after the first wash. Reminds me of going to dinner at my mum's headmistress's house - we always had to toast the Duke of Lancaster!
I would love to actually walk around there. Especially if they let the dogs in. My Corgis would love to meet the Queen.
