Blue Bowl by helenhall

Blue Bowl

I decided to look for a still life today, in the moments between looking after the Sunday lunch. This one, I chose because I love the shape of the bowl, and the pleasing tones around it. I would rather have picked up the whole of the reflection, but couldn't get a good angle on this with the limited extend of the clear surface on the piano, and guests were due to arrive. Out later in the drizzle with the camera, and I realise that in the limited light of the day, I really need to be working with a tripod to get anything sharp and focussed. Too self conscious for that!

A big thank you to those who continue to follow me. It feels like I have new friends :)
What a beautiful bowl. I love the reflection!

That's a lovely bowl. Reflections are seriously tricky I find!

Not only the shape, but the colours and pattern of this bowl are beautiful. The reflection is lovely too. I have been using my tripod more lately--it's getting easier, and there is less swearing involved on my part! I don't usually use it on city sidewalks, though, for fear of obstructing pedestrian traffic, and because of the self-consciousness you mention. But in a park or somewhere like that, I think it's a good idea. I find that I'm not self-conscious about it there, and that it does improve my shots.

Glad you like my bowl. It always did look good on the black piano surface - especially when I have dusted! @daisyditch @judithg Might have another go at getting the full reflection on another day. Thanks for your observations.

@gaylewood I was playing around with a selfie from the camera - just practicing my photoshop skills. Thought I would change the picture as a result. Thank you Gayle.

@tristansmum Thanks for your comment and your advice about the tripod. I really should give it a go - my husband has one that he bought for birdwatching - but I am pretty sure it is the same fitting. I always think that if I have equipment, people will expect better results than I am able to achieve.
