Anybody in at the Almshouses?

Still on a history mission today, I took an interesting detour to capture some of the Royal mail letter box cyphers around town. I'm reluctant to post since I was hoping to find an additional cypher to add to my collage. George VI is missing!

So instead, - this door handle is one on a row of identical doors and identical alms houses built in 1802. All of the houses remain unchanged (since they were refronted in Tudor style 1890) - with matching ironmongery, colours and window frames. They were built by the Harpur Trust, who happen to fund the charity I work for 215 years later!

Talking of work, a system crash today caused me to have to repeat the morning's work this afternoon. There are times when being transported back to the pre-computer era does seem attractive.
I love door handles like this, the blue of the door really makes it pop. Fabulous shot.

This image looks wonderful on black! Such a lovely blue color! I really like the old textures on the handle. After your introduction, I'm now looking forward to your cypher collage. :-)

Doors always fascinate us, and if they have interesting door furniture all the better. This shows a well used door with patina on the knocker and slight damage to the paintwork as a result. The colour is exquisite and would work really well in a panel of different door knobs with different coloured doors!

Love the textures and colours in this. It always thrills me to see and if possible touch something old. One wonders about the person or people who made it and all those who have been in contact with it through the years. It has a sort of historical and emotional patina that new things lack, although they will have it someday if they are around long enough. Fav for me.

@kategoring @gaylewood @dizzyd thank you. I confess to having brightened up the blue a little!

@tristansmum @marshwader thank you for your comments. A patchwork of door handles would be lovely, but all the ones in this row are exactly the same and the doors may not be painted different colours. I might have to collect these from other places over time. Yes, fascinating to think of all the comings and goings through that door over the years.
