The Bedford bus station development remains a huge disappointment to me although the dressing up of the car park in various shades of blue does have an attraction in certain lights and angles.
I had better not get started on the lost opportunities for architectural significance in our small provincial town, nor on the monstrosity of a commercial development that is currently growing in the void of potential opened up by the destruction of the County Council offices. I shall keep quiet about the bus station itself, and I shall carry on seeking out the small delights that arise from time to time.
I'm not saying much about the state of my computer tonight anyway. If I hold my breath, I might get this posted without mishap.
Good night all - for tomorrow is another day. I shall now cheer myself up by looking at your sights of the day.
It makes a great photo subject though. Love the lines and shadows. At least you won't get any birds leaving their calling card on the lamps or any of the structures.
I do like the comp and colours and shadows in this, and it's a fav for me. I know how disheartening it is to see lovely old buildings destroyed to make way for crass and ugly new ones--you have my sympathy.
The more I look at this picture the more interesting it becomes. Pigeons seem to be a concern. Love the shadows. We have the same building blight in Worcester although most of the vandalism happened in the late 60s.
@paulmann Paul, you have the Hive in Worcester which I visited last year and thought was a wonderful space. Bedford seems to think 60s disrespect for design has come back into fashion!
@tristansmum thank you for always finding the positive in my snaps. The architecture thing does make my blood boil from time to time. That, and litter.
@janemartin straight lines Jane, just for you! I had to rotate the frame by about half a degree to straighten it up. Now I realise that it is always good to leave extra space around the intended frame of the picture in order to allow for such a rotation if needed. I never used to even notice if things were straight in a photo!
@taffy Well I knew what would be there - I walk past most days. It is just that we waited years and spent so much on the bus station redevelopment that it is - on the whole - rather an anticlimax. I do quite like the cladding though.
Helen, I think this is a nice shot - I love its simplicity, the lines and the blues... but I know what you mean about the lack of originality about certain modern constructions. Just blocks of concrete with no personality... it's a shame. I think that's why I enjoy older, more interesting architecture - although there are modern gems out there of course...
