as the storm was brewing (a work in progress)

Leaving for work with no coat or umbrella this morning was consequent upon the reverse situation yesterday in which I found myself walking home on a hot muggy afternoon with several excess layers to carry and no hands left should a photo opportunity present.

So today, the sky looked bright and I took the risk. By 5pm a storm was brewing and I walked along the embankment fascinated by the light, the unsettled bird life, the booming bursts of thunder and lightening all around. It wasn't long before the sirens started and I caught the blue of the flashing light reflected in the river here.

The cyclist - rushing to avoid the imminent outburst - is taken from another shot. I had a job moving him - along with motion blur - to my preferred backdrop and although I am happy with the composition and concept, the execution thereof requires more skill than I have. Hence, 'a work in progress.

Comments and suggestions appreciated.
Powerful weather event to experience. I wonder if a photo of the gloom without the bicycle would work just as well. Glad you weren't sheltering under a tree. The worst place to be in a lightning storm.

Very interesting. Could be a painting.

@ethelperry thank you for your suggestion. I wondered that myself - but it did look as if it needed something in the foreground and after having spent so long in the processing, I was bound to post.

@taffy well there was a bit of an atmosphere going on. Thanks for your comment.

@daisyditch @flowerfairyann I think by the time I had finished recreating the same effect that I couldn't quite manage to lift from the second photo, it probably was more of a painting than a photo in parts! Thank you for your comments.

Haha I like this actually Helen! I'm the worst to ask about PS (I don't own it and have a little free program I use which is limited!), so I can't help but I like the ghostly figure... And I like getting caught in a storm so I enjoyed your story :)
