Barley  by helenhall

Barley

Whilst a wheat field may have been topical (ever since Theresa May indicated that the naughtiest thing she had ever done as a child was run through a wheat field, which seems to have captured the imagination of social media participants), I believe this to be barley. Correct me if I am wrong.

I shall be continuing to share some of the early morning snaps from yesterdays walk which was near a local rural village in Bedfordshire with a windmill.

For now, I have pretty much given up attempts to post each day, a photo from that day. it is putting too much pressure on my over-full life, but I don't want to let this project go. Today, is so, so hot, that I don't think I will get out again now until the evening. Meanwhile, I am quietly expiring indoors! Not complaining. Just saying.
nice detail, beautiful bokeh

Lovely detail and bokeh, as @caitnessa said. I have given up posting each day a photo of the day: happiness is doing what one can without stress! We are slowly cooking here in Rome, too, with 30+ degrees Celsius all day long, but that's it, useless to complain!

beautiful macro and bokeh! I looked up your EXIF data, you used a Lumux Point- and-shoot, did you use Automatic mode or shoot at (semu) manual? I've got a Lumix TZ18 I haven't used for years, might give it a try.

Great shot and, yes, I think it is Barley.

What a naugthy girl that Theresa May was ;-)
Nice macro and bokeh.

Beautifully rendered. Fav. Best I don't comment her on TM!

This is so beautiful.. well done Helen, for spotting it and then having the gumption to photograph it..

i'm loving the fine detail which includes the rainbow-coloured gossamer that is softly laid on the 'bristles'.. wonderful..

horrifically delicate...

Gorgeous.

Just keep to the really good photos that you are proud of when they occur! I know it can be a burden!

So beautiful, the focus and light are perfect.

I don't take a photo every day either, haven't done for a long time. I just share photos that I like and want to share. You don't need pressure and posting a photo taken on the day is too stressful.

I am still new here, and so far have taken a photo a day. BUT, that being said, there was a day after work where my less then desirable roadside photo on the way home was not posted. and I posted two that I took the next day.

I say do what you can, and have fun!

Pretty light and textures.

I have always had to post something taken recently, not necessarily on the day. Your project, your decisions. Back in 2014 there was "Throw back Thursday" tag tbth, and it was great to see photos from the past.
I like your stem of barley and don't mind how long ago you captured the image. It is beautiful.

Beautiful close-up capture, Helen! Such lovely bokeh. I totally agree with the others on releasing yourself from the stress of posting each day a photo from that day. Like you, I don't want to let this project go but I want to enjoy it in a stress free manner so sometimes my photos are recent shots and not from that day. :-)

I've just been looking through your albums and you sure take some beautiful photos. How are you finding the TZ70? Do you use it on automatic or manual?
June 19th, 2017
The simplicity of the image is just perfect. Wonderfully composed. Yes, it can be stressful if we let it. Post a photo of any day really. They are your memories.

Kas
Brilliant close up Helen!

Ah I sympathise with the expiring. Quite pleasant for the first time in about 72hrs here. I hate complaining about sunny weather but it is nice to have a little respite!
June 19th, 2017
Wow, I like the detail but also the background!
June 19th, 2017
@kjarn thank you so much Kathy. It is lovely of you to say so. I have adapted to the TZ70 quite well and it has a number of advantages over the lesser model which I upgraded from. I use it in manual settings most of the time as I am keen to be aware of the settings and have control - even if I don't always know what I am doing. If I had an SLR, or mirrorless, I fear that it would remain at home most of the time as I don't carry weight around with me very easily.

@ivan I know where you are coming from as regards TM.
June 19th, 2017
@caitnessa many thanks :)
June 19th, 2017
@auricula42 I use the manual settings on the camera in most instances. Just about used to it now having had it only a few weeks. Very happy with this little camera.

@toinette thank you very much marie.

@judithg still sweltering here this evening. worse than ever! A little breeze is all I request!
June 19th, 2017
@wag864 thank you so much.
June 19th, 2017
@okc553 thank you for the confirmation. I have had quite an education in grains as a result of this weekend's photography.
June 19th, 2017
@stimuloog so they say. and thank you.
June 19th, 2017
@jorlam thanks once more for your kind and empathetic comments.
June 19th, 2017
@caitnessa thanks for the encouragement. It can get a bit obsessive and also very difficult if you have a batch of good photos but end up being slave to the date and posting mediocre ones instead, just to fulfil the 'rules'.
June 19th, 2017
@graemestevens my apologies
June 19th, 2017
@dide thank you. much appreciated.
June 19th, 2017
I have the TZ40 but still haven't ventured off auto. Maybe I should bite the bullet!
June 20th, 2017
This is such beautiful capture Helen, I really love the light on the grass. Like everyone says, it's your project so please do it your way and don't worry about it. Oh this heat... I am afraid I have been complaining rather loudly about it most of the day...
