Something of interest?

Firstly, an apology. I haven't abandoned you all, but I am struggling to keep up. I will find time eventually.

This weekend, we have been in Cookham, celebrating my aunts 80th birthday. There was a rare gathering of cousins and some of my usual style family dysfunctional antics to complicate the proceedings. Just how my husband puts up with it is beyond me.

Now the tale of proceedings would be too long to tell, but if I just say,it involved:
two missed trains,
a mobile phone not switched on,
family arriving at four separate times rather than the appointed 12noon,
over 100 whatsap messages between us during the afternoon,
messages from three of us at various times that said "I'm sitting on a bench by a war memorial"
several "I'm unbelievably confused" statements,

I think you will have a fair idea of proceedings.

We (well four of us anyway) ended up at Cliveden House for a couple of hours and here are my husband, one of my sons, and my father trying to read some writing on the wall of the house. My brother helpfully suggested at one point, that we might take afternoon tea here. It boasts, apparently the most expensive afternoon tea in the world http://www.cntraveller.com/news/2011/april/afternoon-tea

I was leaning over the balcony to try and catch these three equally spaced. (It was pretty much a miracle to have them all in the same spot to be honest - we had only just found Dad after the second time of being 'lost', and they certainly do not co-operate when it comes to photo opportunities). It would not have been sensible to have leaned over any further so I had to be content with this.

Congratulations if you got to the end of this ramble. Medal awarded.
Super fun shot....... family gatherings are just great aren't they !!

Great capture of the three generations together. Sounds like a typical family gathering to me!

Wonderful family image!

I think its a great candid photo. Hope you enjoyed your tea and I don't think that dysfunctional family antics are too unusual, but they do make life interesting and sometimes you just end up either rolling your eyes and taking a deep breath.

Claim my medal! Similar kind of proceedings when I need to meetup with my wife and daughter so I perfectly know what you mean... however, something to remember, isn't it? And I like the photo, better they're not evenly spaced!

I really like this image - a bit of a mystery as to what is happening until I read your explanation - and good that you did eventually meet up!

Great shot of three generations, made me smile.

Excellent POV and timing. Hard to miss those 2 are father and son.

Wow, what a great image - family or not.. i love the way they are squinting (and screwing up their faces) to get a clearer view.. this is so much better than a posed shot.. love the beautiful skin tones..
your extremely hectic day had a fabulous result, in this outstanding candid family portrait..

Great timing, nice famili shot.

Helen - this made me laugh! Glad you survived the ordeal. Nice shot of them

Btw I don't think I would be drinking much coffee or daring to eat there!

The upward gaze, bears scrutiny!

I like this. The not-equal spacing is actually very pleasing and also draws to your attention the facial similarity between father and son.

@dizzyd well yes - I am glad they dont happen every day.
@judithdeacon how very reassuring. Although i dont think my boys would agree that we are a typical family!
@kali66 thanks for the comment Kali. Yes he does, although as a baby and young child he really looked like my side of the family.
@taffy thanks Taffy. I do rather like it now.
@moonmtn always good to keep calm during the antics. i need more practice at that. We didnt take the tea - I would have needed my brother to pay the bill and he hadnt showed up!
@domenicododaro the medal is yours. Thanks for the feedback on the photo.
@dide thank you Diane. Yes better late than never - in meeting up.
@kjarn thank you. I am glad.
@fotoblah they are certainly alike. Temperament too.
@jorlam thank you so much for your generous and careful feedback - as usual.
@haskar thanks so much.
@rosiekind we resorted to the orangary round the back where prices were more affordable! Pleased to amuse!
@ivan Ha! yes.
@helenm2016 thanks for the feedback. I am now convinced that the uneven spacing doesnt matter. I had to lean over a long way to get this but am happy with it as it is.

i'm happy to graciously accept my medal. wonderful of-the-moment shot, and a most entertaining narrative about your family. i so appreciate your insightful and thoughtful comments on my images, and only now realise that i for some reason am not following you ... i'm happy to say this is now remedied :)

@pistache I am honoured! Thank you.

Like many of the others, I think the natural spacing and squinting are part of the charm of this shot. They are so intent on whatever they're viewing it doesn't matter that we don't know what it is, it's just fun to look at their faces. And even the most "normal" of families has its share of drama, you just don't generally see it! Great shot!

I like that this is quite a candid shot, it works well. Good heavens, the price of that tea.......£550 per couple, really? no, really? I certainly won't be partaking anytime soon.
