The Ascent by helenhall

The Ascent

I have a few more from the weekend to show.

Today, I chose this one of my father making the ascent from the River Thames up towards the house at Clivedon. He is 84 and suffers constant back pain - especially when walking. But he won't be defeated in anything, even if it means lying down in the middle of a path. In fact, he made these 174 steps up without lying down at all - having rested on the grass at the bottom after the initial descent. My father is eccentric, and gives us all the run around, but I am so proud of him and his values.
A wonderful photo and what a wonderful character you Dad is, he puts me to shame, I really don't think I would have rushed to go up those steps!

@judithdeacon yes, he puts a lot of us to shame in all sorts of ways. thanks for your comment.
@ivan indeed, you are right
@lindasees im so pleased you have been encouraged, this gladdens me and will him.
@kwind thanks. determination he most certainly has.
@maggiemae there was a buggy that was transporting people up the hill, and for a moment he considered taking a ride, but he believes in keeping fit. Took up swimming and table tennis and started riding his bike again when mum died 18 months ago!
@onewing apparently there used to be a seat half way up, I was told.
@moonmtn thank you. I would be most troubled if I were unable to keep walking - but not everyone can.
@taffy thank you so much. I am so glad I lingered behind to take it.
@haskar thank you indeed.
@suzanne234 thanks for the comment Suzanne.
@pistache thanks Clare - your follow is very much appreciated, and the comment.
@cruiser thank you Chris. Determination is the word of the day here!

I've been away for a week and missed so many wonderful shots of yours. This is excellent. Love the angle you've chosen and that you've included only the steps and the greenery. Isolates the steps so effectively.
