Abstract August 4

Off out this afternoon on a mission to collect abstracts and blackberries. I don't know if it is me, but blackberry picking seems to be ever more fraught with difficulty. Quite apart from the brambles fighting back and doing their utmost to catch one hostage through clinging to clothes, they seem to grow in compulsory combination with stinging nettles that arrange their leaves protectively around the juicy fruit. Todays additional challenges included bind weed and barbed wire.

As if that weren't enough, having bravely trodden a course to reach some not so low hanging fruit, I looked down to see a body lying under the bushes. I panicked - three bodies already having been found in the river over the last fortnight. I stopped, heart pounding whilst I waited to see if it would move. No movement. I looked harder, and decided, after some considerable time, that it was just a laid out coat, with no body underneath. I hastily retreated but after some minutes, had to go back again, just to be sure.

Enough of blackberry picking, I was then treated to the most stunning displays from some dragonflies. There was simply no chance that I would ever be able to catch them in the frame of my little camera. At one point I set the camera at the most preferable settings, focussed on some grass around where the dragonflies had been to-ing and fro-ing, and waited. In vain.

Oh well, I got my abstracts and am now in the midst of making a blackberry and apple charlotte. So, happy enough.
What a fraught time you've had picking blackberries Helen. I know what you mean about the prickles and nettles! And then the coat - you were very brave. Well, tonight enjoy the fruits of your labours.

I like how you've shown this grass as a diagonal across the shot.

I thought for one moment that you had stumbled across another 365er trying for the perfect creepy crawly shot. So pleased it turned out harmless in the end. Enjoy your hard earned pudding, Hopefully the dragonflies will be there next time you visit.

What a sad tale of woe.. hope you truly enjoyed the (literal) fruits of your labours.. Fruit, in whatever form, has got to be one of my favourite desserts, whether accompanied by custard, cream or ice-cream.. salivating again... your diagonal framing of the stem of grass is so dynamic.. love the detail of the individual seeds Helen..

Nice composition and line Helen.

@suzanne234 now I didn't consider that option at the time! Sadly, it is an area where a lot of homeless camp out and I really thought I had stumbled upon one that had never made it through the winter. It was difficult to see because of the overgrowth.

Whoa- you have had an adventurous day! Sounds like you deserve that yummy dessert you are cooking up! Nice capture too- even if it did bring you to the brink of a heart attack!

What a day you've had. Add some wine with your dessert.

Wow, what an eventful day you had. I used to love blackberry picking. Always came home with juice dripping onto my clothes when I was a child.
Lovely shot.

@flowerfairyann @jorlam @olivetreeann @moonmtn @onewing thank you all. You indulge me with my stories - really it wasn't all that bad. The blackberry and apple charlotte was consumed today - we had visitors. And there might have been some wine .....
@ivan @pdulis @wag864 thank you for your comments. Im now convinced that this is in no respect, an abstract, but I will keep working on the theme.

What a frightening experience!
I like your pic. So nice minimalistic. At first I thought it was an old rope.
