What a fascinating time I am having with this artist challenge. It is really making me stop and think so carefully about composition. It is amazing how a slight change in POV can completely alter the balance and interaction of elements in the frame. I ended up with half a dozen versions of this and whilst they are essentially the same in subject matter, they each have completely different merits and problems. I also encountered the difficulty of the effect of using a white frame to the image which in parts was white to the edge.
I didn't get it quite as I would like - if I had stayed much longer waiting for gaps in the busy traffic with my camera poised, I might have roused some unwelcome questioning. I tested a few different versions with the characteristic white frame, then picked this one (having first checked that Colten Allen did in fact allow the odd figure to creep into his empty urban spaces) as I liked the way the road markings seemed to speak into the composition. Prebend Street leads into Midland Road and the Railway station, which presumably the pedestrian is heading for.
@onewing Thank you. I sure there is yet more to observe - and I keep going back to look at his series one more time before setting out with the camera.
@pickerandagrinner thank you fro your encouragement in this excellent challenge. It gives me an opportunity to look at my surroundings in a new way - which has to be good.
