Rich pickings at the water's edge

Today, I enjoyed a walk out - just me and my camera. It being a holiday weekend though, I did bump into several neighbours and friends with time to stop and chat, so a bit less walking than might have been.

It is good to be back to just myself and my husband after such a hectic Christmas and to be able to start thinking about returning to full participation here again.

The canada geese were enjoying picking at the grass through the flood waters. I always wonder, when the river is flooded and the water birds have new territories to explore, whether they think it is more fun. The birdlife certainly looked to be having a good time today.
Lovely capture ...

Love this shot, especially the grass in the foreground.

Love this wonderful goose capture...I'm surprised the goose didn't run or fly away when you came closer to get the shot. It would be so cool to know what the birds are thinking as they flutter around from place to place getting food. :-)

It always amuses me how geese appear totally engrossed in their feeding. I've never given much thought to what they are thinking, but from now Helen, I will probably think of you while trying to figure out if they are happy:).
