I took rather too many shots of the jetty whilst walking along the waters edge. (Most have had to have a severe straightening treatment.) Despite the crashing waves, I felt somewhat safer along the shoreline than I had the previous day walking along the jetty which seemed to be suffering in parts from severe rot and there was rather too much give in some of the boards on the walkway for my liking. Hardly surprising, given the bashing that the boards take from the ocean, but I was surprised to learn that there has been a fairly recent renovation (2010), it certainly didn't seem that way.
Another place I stayed while traveling through Namibia. Many houses in Swakopmund are reminiscent of the time when this country was called German Southwest Africa. Many descendants of German settlers live there - they speak perfect German, without any accent. For swimming, this beach is rather unsuitable - the Atlantic pushes violent waves, the water is rather cold.
@jerome thank you Jerome for your visits here on my project. I am so pleased to have been travelling where you have gone before. Swakopmund is a strange town with its German influence - in the midst of the vastness of the desert around. The waves were indeed violent and I had to be very careful paddling along the steep banks of the shore.
