Towards the Goal

This is the last of my marathon pictures that I will post. Most that I took were as the previous two with runners on - I was convinced that the best image would come from that angle - with the black of the tunnel behind and that trail of light through the tunnel adding a leading line from the top. Trouble was, I was really too far away to get a good image that way and I needed to be lower down. I wasn't going to risk my life by leaning further over the wall. I wasn't really able to pull it off the way I wanted to.

I think it paid to let go of the background here and take this from a more reasonable distance. Whilst Matt is the key runner here, I liked the horizontal line up of faces behind him all running determinedly towards the goal.

I was astonished to find the runners packed so closely together - even at mile 24 of the race.

Thank you for your comments and favs and interest in my photos. As I get time, I spend it looking at your projects rather than replying - on the whole - I hope you will not consider this rude.
I just love this capture, and the way you've highlighted the intensity of their work in pushing along. The faces are amazing!

You really captured the runners' determination and fortitude! I love the black and white treatment...putting all the attention on the runners.

You've really captured sheer grit and determination in this photo Helen. Each runner with a different story.

If I didn't know this was the Marathon and they were wearing normal clothes, it could have been Black Friday! Hardly any elbow room

Yes, getting in tight and close was an excellent idea- it really does make you feel clautrophobic but at the same time there is so much to see in all those faces. Great shot!
