We only got to see the Palais by peeping through the golden railings - it would have been far too ambitious to make our way around the rooms with the crowds in the available time and with Dad's mobility. So I popped my lens through the railings to capture a memory of the golden clad extravagance of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Already worn out after a search for coffee and toilets in Versailles, we opted to head for the gardens and sit in the sunshine.
You were able to compose a beautiful shot through the railings! Good thinking to avoid the rooms. We visited last year, and it was a good bit of walking. The stifling heat inside was a challenge as well.
Thank you so much for your kind words on my photos recently...so sweet of you! I've hit a busy spell and have been absent for a few days. I hope to pop in and out during the rest of the month and then get back on track. Thanks again! :)
What a perfect image of this grand Palais! Back in 1970, my boyfriend proposed to me there while we were backpacking around Europe. Very special place (though, as it turns out, not so special a relationship!). Still, I will never forget that courtyard!
Brilliant capture given your circumstances. I have same problems as your Dad. When going out, I have to consider whether it is a wheelchair outing or a 4 wheel walker. It is such a joy to be taken out and I applaud your kindness to your Dad.
@janetb thank you for your comment Janet. One of our party couldn't cope inside and had to call for a 'rescue party' (aka our guide) to get her out after the first hour.
@ethelperry I persuaded dad to let me push him around in a wheel chair when we got to Musee D'Orsay. He later said it was the best part of his trip, which really surprised me as he is a fiercely independent person. A measure, I think, of the extent of his back pain. Thank you for your kind comment.
