I was walking the dogs through our field this morning, thinking of taking a close-up of a bumble bee on a buttercup when I noticed a small clump of bee orchids...I've never seen them before, but maybe I just never looked so closely in this precise spot. They are a native wildflower here, and although not super-rare, they are quite uncommon; at least, I've never seen many before, so it was a nice surprise. Now I just have to stop the dogs trampling them down.
Whoever came up with the name Bee Orchid for this flower had clearly not seen many bees! At first glance, the overall shape of the dark bit is similar, but a closer looks shows that this is really a little alien with a big orange smile and green Shrek-like ears - I'd call it the Pokemon Orchid, if it was up to me....
And I'm still failing miserably on Simplicity - this flower is definitely not simple!
Perhaps not "simple" but certainly simply wonderful!
(I have been at my Dad's all week and no internet access...finally have access at local library right but now cannot get my photos to upload! I am so frustrated...so that's why no one has heard from me of late!)
Wow Helen! What a find! I've never seen one of these. We just seem to have the early spotted orchids in our old woods. A beautiul shot. It's a good thing that no one was there to see you crawling around trying to get this shot!! Bet the dogs thought it was a good game! Of course there are alays the orchids we never see because some dumb nut from the council mowed them down!
I missed this!! He is a real cute alien Pokemon, I like the fuzzy yellow pom pom antenna, and his two little legs! Also it looks like he has a helmet on his head, like one of those motorbike helmets with ears, crazy orchid!
