I cycled in to Cambridge this morning to sign some copies of my books for Heffers Childrens Bookshop (which is the most wonderful place - definitely recommended if ever you find yourself in Cambridge). I was so excited to see myself on the 3 for 2 table - I really feel that I've made it now.
Afterwards I headed for the new cafe in town - Bill's Cafe in Green Street - definitely another recommendation (and improvement on the Slug and Lettuce pub which was there previously). I sat down with a cappucino and a chocolate brownie and wrote the first two paragraphs of Adventure Island Book 8. This is the cafe from outside - I'm not usually a fan of gladioli, but there was something so unashamdedly glam about these orange ones on each table, I couldn't help loving them. I also love the bikes with their bright saddle covers (fashioned from supermarket carrier bags) - an all -important bike accessory in Cambridge to avoid the curse of the soggy bottom.
Very cool! Congrats from me, too. I love the whole of the shot - the color of the flowers, the bikes, everything! Soggy bottoms would not be comfortable so I think the plastic bags are a great idea!
I'll have to get some for Mayfield library (your books, not the glads though they are splendid). I seem to be living in their interview room at the moment. Will have to try Bill's - isn't the Michaelhouse a Bill's too?
