I probably shouldn't have said the words, 'I'm thinking of doing a half-marathon next year" out loud, because now I have to do it. Especially as my little sister and niece are going to to do it too and so I not only have to run all those miles but also run them fast enough that they don't leave me behind (not that I'm competitive or anything!). On the other hand I'm really enjoying doing some running again and it even comes in handy now and then. We had a lovely evening at dinner with friends in Cambridge on Saturday night and it wasn't long before I decided on the second-glass-of-wine-leave-the-car-here-and-get-a-taxi-home-option. This morning I ran into Cambridge to fetch the car back. It's not really as athletic as it might sound, as it's only 3.6 miles (disappointingly; I thought it would be further - it certainly felt like it!). It was a rather grey damp morning but beautiful across Jesus Green and Midsummer Common under a shower of Autumn leaves and I did enjoy a doubly-smug moment as I reached my car - excercise that's useful too! Surely that earns me several extra Yorkshire puddings when I sit down to my roast dinner later!
There's a great free app that I've downloaded called Mapmyrun, which tells you distance, time, average speed (SLOW!) etc, and talks to you in the same voice as the satnav lady, so at least you know you won't get lost!
Did I really say that out loud as well?? I think we are possibly showing the first signs of Tourettes!! Well done on running 3.6 miles, which is infact a very long way...I know because I ran my first 5km this morning which I think is about 3 miles, not sure I could have made the .6!! So, only an increase of another 10 miles, and we'll be there!! Ha, ha ,ha (delirious laughter!!!)
@janeterry now I think about it I'm not sure I actually said I was going to RUN a half marathon, only DO it - so crawling could be an option for those last ten miles?
