Along the backs

A lovely day in every way! If you have to start the morning with a six mile run it really helps if the sun is shining in a bright blue sky and your route takes you along the backs - where the beautiful Cambridge colleges back onto the river. There were lots of people out strolling and cycling (and even uni-cycking) under the trees. Home for a quick change and then a cycle ride back into town for lunch with friends, and then on to two fascinating talks - part of the Cambridge Literary Festival - Ali Smith and Andrew Marr - both enthralling and interesting. Then a quick dash home in the rain, another change and out to a lovely drinks party at the home of one of our neighbours (the first Christmassy social event of the season!). We left Will at home to keep an eye on the roast potatoes, then home for roast dinner - all four of us at the table at the same time for the first time in weeks. Ed was able to get away from work by 8 for once (the pub has been very busy lately so he's been working some twelve hour shifts).
Lovely scene set off by the strategically placed bicycle.
