Near the covered bridge (see pictures from the past two days), is this lake, complete with a light house by a small waterfalls. As you can see, the lake was busy with ice fishermen, even though it is late in the season. The ice must be at least 8 inches thick to drive a pick-up truck on.
This is a beautiful place! I have never seen anyone ice fish! Do they cut circles in the ice? What do they fish for? This photo is full of activity with the water rushing and people fishing. Wonderful lighthouse too!
@linnypinny Thanks! New England is a very beautiful place. @lafish Thanks so much for the FAV! @kathyladley Just yesterday, my husband and boys went ice fishing for the first time. They use an auger to drill a 10-inch whole in the ice. They set up a special trap, that is kind of like a fishing pole, then they pull up their catch. Yesterday they caught more than 20 fish and brought home 12 of them (11 perch and a trout). They also caught 2 small mouth bass, but they couldn't keep them. All of the fish were between 12 and 18 inches long. Had fresh fish for dinner tonight. It was so yummy! @kathysview Neither have I! LOL! It was by the small waterfall leading to the Nissitissit River.
@luvmynynix This is the first time we've ever lived any place that has had ice fishing, so it's quite a novelty for us. I prefer to sit a long the shore and just watch the boats! LOL! Although, I ended up cleaning most of the fish they got yesterday, or at least helping with them. Thankfully, it didn't mess up my manicure. It was worth it, though. That fresh fish sure was good!
@pixiemac@annika82 Thanks! @terryliv Hahahaha! I agree! I don't do winter unless I have to. When you live in New England where winter lasts 6 months, you had better like winter activities! LOL!
