things have come a long way since I received my First Communion...I took these for my neighbor...there were several families that hired professionals with lighting set up inside the church, little girls in dresses comparable to a bride's...we had one or two snapshots from a kodak instamatic camera or maybe even a polaroid instant camera in my day. there were scheduled times for these families a few days ahead of the actual ceremony to take photos inside of the church. fortunately we went at the earliest time possible. we were done and gone and this little Communicant was able to go home get out of his suit have dinner and rest before having to go back for practice for the real event which will take place Saturday. Blessings Frankie!
@adi314 this was taken without flash. I did have it on camera with a Rogue flashbender but wasn't happy with the reflections I was getting on the shiny surfaces...the others had umbrellas with ocf about 10 feet up in the air in both side aisles. I'm not that comfortable with ocf as of yet in that kind of setting. I move too slowly to be hauling around gear with a hundred people around...the church had some lovely light in areas and my neighbors will be happy with what I took I think. I have been photographing their children for years...I do wish I had a different modifier. something I have been looking into but haven't done anything seriously about for on camera flash situations. I have studio ones that I can do fairly well with in the studio...lighting is a big thing to learn!
@jackies365 I always do natural lighting just because of the same reasons, I would not feel comfortable carrying around all the stuff. I should really learn how to do flash without looking flat, one of my goals for this year... beau pic and lighting :)
Pretty sure my only First Communion photo was taken by my parents in our driveway....:). Didn’t know they go in for professionals these days..not surprising though. Very nice photo.

Did you take lighting to the church as well?
