The Queen's Holiday Home

Balmoral Castle has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852.

It is situated only 8 miles from our home in Ballater. The grounds are open to the public when the Queen is not in residence, and the Lion Rampart flies above the castle. When the Queen is in residence, the Union Jack will fly, and naturally the public are strictly prohibited! She generally arrives in mid August for her summer 'holidays'.

I'm told that the Queen likes to come to Balmoral as she can relax here and even drives herself around the estate in a land rover!
A really stately capture.

Makes me a believer in fairytales! What a place! And what a great picture of it. Your b&w edit brings out the details wonderfully.
