I read about these and had to to search them out on Teatergata in Oslo. My daughter had never heard of them and was sceptical about finding them .
We did find them though - in the government quarter, a short distance from the office block targeted in the 2011 terrorist attacks.
The Grass Root People were created by Korean-American artist Do Ho Suh. Some slabs in the square have been removed and replaced by these tiny bronze statues, 50 thousand of them. They’re standing together, interacting, and some of them bear the weight of pavement slabs. The project was designed and approved before the terror attacks, but I think that makes the little people standing together in solidarity seem all the more touching.
I'll post another image on my extras album which gives an better indication of perspective - one my daughter took of me taking shots of the little people.
Very interesting. Never heard of them, and, as you sa, they appear to be a sign of solidarity. I like the finger above them that gives a sense of scale.Fav
This is so cool! I can understand why you wanted to search them out. Can you imagine making 50 thousand of these tiny bronze statues?! Great idea including the finger for a sense of scale and definitely awesome POV! :-)
I'd never heard of this, but WOW! That's incredible! What an amazing sight that must be...like you're looking at something of historical significance that will go down in history!
