By my own fair hand ...

So chuffed with these little earrings. I attended a glass bead making course a couple of weeks back and made these two beads. I really enjoyed it, although I don't see myself setting up a business yet! The lady who ran the course made them into earrings for me, and I just got them back in the post today. In the background of the shot you can just make out my 'design'.

Love them, Issi. Beautiful!

They are so beautiful, well done! What a great course to do! It reminds me that in the past I did a short introductory course on textiles at the Burrell Museum which was really good too.

Beautifully composed! I love the splash of color on white and the DoF showing a hint of color in the background. Sounds like fun!

You have such an array of talent -- I remember your flower arranging too, and like these beads, those were stellar.

@shannejw Just glass. Quite easy when someone shows you how and you have the right tools. Using a bunsen burner, you heat a rod of glass (I chose a white background) and once melting, stick a lump of it onto a small metal rod and then turn it under the blow torch until it is the shape you want. Then you 'dip' the white glass bead into tiny glass chips of your pre-selected colours, and turn it again under the blow torch until they are all melted and you have the right shape again. Finally you melt some clear glass onto your bead to finish it off, turning it until the shape is good. It's fun, but requires a bit of dexterity as you need to turn the rod of glass at the same time as the bead on the metal rod. Is that clear as mud?!

@casablanca Easy when someone shows you how and is there to stop you making a total mess of things!

@taffy All done with a bit of help, it has to be said, but it's fun!

really interesting - it's one of those things I'd like to do - I made a lot of ceramic clay beads and jewellery a while back and would like to do more.
