I am in the process of reading 3 'local-content' books (2 down, one to go) that my dad loaned me, written by Amy Stewart Fraser. I'm loving them - they are very informative for anyone interested in the social history of Gairnside, and I have found them fascinating as she recounts her young life in the country. Amy S F was brought there at the end of the 19th century, as her father was minister there. She has now passed on, and so has the old Manse where she was brought up. She did return to Gairnside as an adult, and I believe that this house is where she 'summered' in later years. You don't actually see it, but the river Gairn runs through the foreground of this image. My dad loves to tell the tale of being invited in for 'tea and crumpets' when he was researching local gaelic place names with Adam Watson. Right enough, dad's visit is mentioned in one of her books - very briefly, however! The colours pop better on black.
Gorgeous architecture for Scotland! Wouldn't it be fabulous to renovate this! Lovely background. You must be thrilled to see your Dad's visit in the book!
Such a beautiful neat sturdy house in true Scottish style. That roof is a perfect shape. Your book sounds interesting especially as your dad is mentioned...gives it such personal pleasure.
My favorite landscape photos which include man made objects are the ones, such as this one, where the object seems to naturally belong in the setting as much as the elements of the setting do.
Great story- your dad's 15 minutes of fame is immortalized in a book! The house looks like an idyllic place to summer- I'm sure it has some cupboard or doorway that leads to Narnia!
