So, the car, and my camera, have both returned to the fold - neither seeming to be the worse for their little stay in Aboyne following the petrol for diesel scandal!
But I don't have a photo for today, so I'm posting this one from 1967-ish which I'm putting into dad's Memory Book.
Taken at my grandparents' house (probably by my grandad, as he's not in the photo). I love how my granny has a magazine open to keep my brother 'entertained' during the photo op! That's how I remember her. She was a teacher, and the gentlest of women. She always took opportunities to teach us things (in a pleasant way) when we were there - memory games, imagination games, making up bedtime stories, counting, etc. Steven, my little brother, always wanted to hear stories about 'The Aberdeen Boy'. He was a naughty boy, you understand! We loved granny to bits. She herself was the youngest of 7 Murray 'children'.
I notice that mum and dad are both wearing their Shetland sweaters. Dad has a tie on, and we're all fairly smartly dressed, so there must have been an occasion of some sort. My brother Johnnie's shoes ... where did they get them?!
This photo brings back really happy family memories for me.
I must have missed something there......they sold you petrol instead of diesel? Or vice versa? Never a good plan, eek! Glad your car is okay....and you!
What a super photograph. Love the smiles, the clothes, the composition. What a treasure to have!
@casablanca No, no, hubby made the mistake! He filled up our car with petrol on Thursday morning instead of diesel - and I drove it for 7 miles until it broke down (without realising, of course). It's been in the garage getting drained and hopefully sorted. All fine for the moment, but apparently the damage could appear in later months. We have everything crossed!
@jamibann Oh my! These things happen. Harder the other way as the nozzle for diesel is usually bigger so doesn't easily fit into the petrol hole. My buddy just drove to Switzerland but had to get their car checked in France en route as lights were flashing. Turned out to be "bad diesel." Another eek!
@brigette such a delightful image and yes those shoes - and socks! So ordinary then, but must look akin to ruffs and pantaloons for today's youngsters.
fabulous , I think you and your brother must have been "playing out" , with your mum supervising, as you have coats on ..fab duffle coat ...don't see many of those around these days ! Faved
We are of a similar vintage and this brings back memories, of hand-knitted pulllovers and duffle coats with toggles, and of course the plastic sandals. They were sold at Woolworths, not displayed on racks but in a big bin, you had to search around for your size and color. Tho' I seem to remember there were only two colors, white or brown, and nobody chose white because they got dirty and looked awful. You had to wear socks as the plastic cut into your skin. I have a pet theory that this is why so many British men of a certain age still wear socks with sandals.
Oh what a delightful photo of your family. I'm sure you'll enjoy all the choosing and then your Dad will enjoy the page turning and lots of information and details may be shared
Our older son is 39 soon.....how is that possible!!!!.... perhaps I could make a photo book for his next landmark birthday.
Glad the car doing well... Long may it continue .
