We had plans for a long walk yesterday over to Glen Doll, but the weather didn't play game. It was a snowy washout until about 1pm. So we waited until after lunch for the weather window and walked one of our local hills - Pannanich via the Heartbreak Ridge. It was lovely, but very wet underfoot and as you can see, misty on top! More rain today.
Storm Kathleen blasting in as I type......Hubby's weekend sailing course was cancelled as beginners are not so good at Force 9 winds LOL. Lovely vista of unconcerned sheep! I imagine it will be soggy weekend up there.
@ludwigsdiana One might imagine that there is some romantic reason for this ridge being so-called, but we can find none, and John and I commented on that yesterday as we walked! It wasn't called that when I lived in Ballater in the 60s, so it's a fairly recent 'naming'. I'd guess that it's been named that by the mountain bikers who use the tracks there - there's a lot of granite slabs, and it's fairly steep - you wouldn't catch me descending on a mountain bike and going up on one would be nigh on impossible. This image is taken just before the route starts to climb.
The question I was going to ask so thank you for explains. Heartbreak for so many folk falling off their bikes I expect. Love this photo. So much atmosphere with mist & the sheep just looking up as you pass. Mist in the background but sharp sheep.
Heartbreak Ridge sounds like a sad place, is there a history as to why it got that name?
Those sheep would have to put up with the bleak weather & they look quite intrepid.
Love this capture!
