I thought this photograph epitomised, in a way, the role of Prince Philip, ... always present, but always behind the Queen. This was taken at the Braemar Gathering in, I believe, 1967. I am the little girl on the far right presenting a posy of white heather to Princess Anne. Every year, local highland dancers are chosen to present posies to the ladies of the Royal Family attending the Gathering. That tradition continues, although the Gathering will not be held this year, for the second year running, because of Covid restrictions.
A precious photo Issi....how exciting for your little self! How they loved the Braemar Gatherings,I expect they were at their happiest when there. The Queen will miss her man! I’m glad that there is not going to be a massive funeral....better for her & what he would have wanted.
What a poignant memory right now.
Such a remarkable man and lovely that so many admirable elements of his life are being acknowledged.
A bit OTT with the repetitive coverage but .....
@sarah19 Yes, hubby moans about the repetitive coverage! I say the same about all the rugby matches on tv at the moment ... could be the same match for all I'd know! I like the 6 Nations, but everything else in the rugby world leaves me cold.
A story and a piece of history. My favorite photo of the two of them is when Philip dressed up and posed as a Buckingham Palace Guard and the Queen noticed as she walked by, smiling. Have you seen that photo?
