Lots of snow yesterday afternoon and evening. This morning Sam, who goes to school in Warwick, found out that school was closed for the day, and Angus who goes to Stratford found out that his was open. Needless, to say he didn't exactly see the funny side of this especially when all of the other local schools were closed too.
Another day of carting water around for the animals. The pigs are completely hating the snow and didn't even come out of their house for their tea tonight.
Today I took a drive along some of the snowbound local lanes - so glad I got my new bad boy tyres last Thursday - can't believe the difference. It's times like this that I really appreciate my car.
The chickens have taken to standing on one leg with the other one tucked into their feathers to keep it warm.
Bless her. Sussex light? What a lovely hen. We used to have Sussex Lights and they made the most lovely broody mothers - plus mine lived till they were about 10!
@streetlyend That's right Lucy. We used to have a few of them but unfortunately the fox did his work on a few of them so this is the only Sussex we have got left. She is probably about 5 years old.
@jantan Sorry Jan, detracting from your wonderful photo I must just tell you about my old mamma hen (as we called her) She reared an orphan duckling we called Clarence. She looked after him even when he was grown up and were inseperable until the day she died. They are lovely hens. Seeing yours brings a tear to my eye so I am going to FAV it
Great shot of your chook! And i know its not easy! This is exceptionally good! I stuffed my hen house full of straw on the roost to help insulate them at night instead of just wood shavings and they persist in scratching it all out into the run as soon as I do it!!
@calm They are all pets Cathy, but the pigs are due to go for a 'sleep-over' with a boar soon, and the intention is that their babies will go for food - my husband's plan, not mine......
Winter tyres? i have been tempted to get some but know if i do the sun will come out & it will be spring! Snow makes life very hard when you have animals!!
Pat You're back! Must have a look at your album. I've got a Landrover and got some really heavy duty nobbly tyres. A few places I spoke to told me that they would be better for my car than winter tyres.
Beautiful!!! My son's head wrote his blog on 'the power of the shovel' this week - they never close much to the irritation of my son. Most of the city schools didn't this time although numbers were down - it'll be ruining my attendance targets!
Boy, if looks could kill. LOL
I've never been around chickens, so I know nothing about their behavior or temperament, but they really are quite beautiful when you take the time to look.
I love this chicky portrait. Fav
PS Tires can make a world of difference!!!
