This is the site of the Battle of Edgehill in the first English civil war between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians in 1642. Taking part were nearly 5,000 horses, 1,500 dragoons, 21,000 foot soldiers and 23 guns (yes, 23.) 1,000 lost their lives and 3,000 were injured. Hard to imagine when you look at this tranquil pastoral scene these days.
Another beautiful day. And one of those days where I got through a lot of chores that I have been putting off for a while - not least giving the barbecue a good clean - hate that job.
Sam had his trumpet exam which he said went well. Angus sat around in his dressing gown for most of the day and I did a lot of biting of my tongue, and actually managed not to make any snotty comments to him although I was getting increasingly irate. Well done me!
The evening was largely spent clapping - prize giving at Sam's school. I was clapped-out by the end of it.
Another beautiful landscape. I like the contrast between the shadows in the foreground and the light in the background. You did well to capture the detail in both. Fav
LOL - clapped out... what a stunning scene! I've been grumpy with Adam because he was in today - despite being grumpy yesterday because he's been working too much imo and now I'm grumpy because he's gone out again... I'd love to have seen the 1,500 dragons :0)
Gorgeous scenery and stunning light. Just crying out to be captured so wonderfully. I seem to remember doing a lot of biting of my tongue when my kids were teenagers!
Who could be bothered to fight a war among all this beauty...would have been much the same view in 1642 I imagine.
Just a serene & quiet evening in England...lovely.
I feel like I've stepped into a time machine. This looks like a painting from another era. I can almost picture the artist and his easel there.
It's breathtaking and it's a Fav.
