This was taken at the blues festival in our village. It has organised by our friend Mark on the left, and this was its 25th year. His band are always the headline act, and are excellent.
It was particularly poignant this year because shortly after last year's gig the bass guitarist died of a heart attack at the age of 54. Mark had asked me if I could take some photos because the local paper wanted to run an item on the 25th year and the fact that it was being staged as a special memorial to the bassist, but their photographer could only take shots before the festival started. I agreed, but must admit I was rather nervous because it is definitely not the normal kind of thing I do. In the end I was quite pleased with several of the shots and certainly learned a lot in the process of taking them. Not sure if any of them will end up in the paper tho.
The weather was OK, tho the light could have been a lot better, and the turnout good. All 7 bands performed for free and the money raised, about £1000, goes to village causes.
What a lovely picture. I visited a music fest in Old Sacramento in May, and was fascinated with the instruments, the music and the people. It was their 41st year.
This is a lovely shot and a fitting tribute to the bass player. It must be a thing about bassists as a friend of ours who plays in a band lost his son who also played bass in the same band died of a brain haemorrhage and he was in his late 30s. It was really hard for Chris to go out playing again but he does and they have a young chap who is now their bass player. I always feel that Chris has been very brave and I'm really glad that he's still playing as it's a really good rock band
@rosiekind that does sound very brave of him Rosie. It was very sad in some ways, particularly as his bass guitar was on a stand on the stage throughout, and his mother was in the audience. But like you say, a fitting tribute.
