hipsta christmas memories

This old decoration was in an old tin of decorations given to us by my Mother in Law. It brings back happy childhood memories for my husband.

I love the way that decorating the tree brings back all sorts of memories. We don't go for anything nearly as tasteful as a colour scheme, but things that we love instead. In this picture there is a silver clay cat made by Angus when he was at nursery, and a china dragon which was bought just before we moved back to the UK from Singapore. Each boy has one - a dragon for Sam, and an Ox for Angus - their Chinese zodiac animals.
My decorations always being back memories, so nice to have them going back so far. This Santa looks beautifully made. A real keepsake.

That is very cool. I love the old ornaments and never understand folks that decorate their trees in certain colors.

Lovely Jan. We too go for the memory tree rather than the perfectly co-ordinated tree, although we aim for a little co-ordination when possible! We have all sorts of strange looking decorations the kids made when they were little, and as long as they hold together, they will go on the tree.

We're at my parents' place at the moment, and the tree-topping decoration is, as always, a 30+ year old star made of cardboard, glitter and lentils. Total thing of beauty, obvs.

I love having ornaments that have memories attached. I do have some that don't have memories...and each of my children has their box of ornaments now that were collected over their life span to date...and to which I add each year.
