Jack is not impressed with Storm Christoph. I can't say I blame him, it was grim, grim, grim out there this morning.
However, wanting to make use of my new wheelbarrow (is it a symptom of lockdown that I am inordinately excited about my new wheelbarrow?) I spent most of the morning mucking out, sweeping the stable yard and generally tidying up outside. It was nice to spend a bit of extra time with the animals, even though they insist on all being within a few inches of me when I am trying to get on with a job!
I spoke to my Mum who told me that when she took her dog out yesterday she slipped on a grass verge and fell over. Because it was so slippery she couldn't get up again and somebody had to stop their car to help her. Fortunately the only thing that was hurt was her pride.
Of course, she didn't have her phone with her (something that I am always nagging her about!) She was only a few doors away from my brother's house, so she could have called him if she had it.
She tells me she has learned her lesson.... we'll see. I feel like a nagging parent.
I watched quite a bit of the inauguration. It made me feel quite emotional, especially the swearing in of Kamala Harris.
Poor Jack, I know how he feels, so much water & dealing with livestock in the flooded fields & buildings is not easy. I sympathise with your mum, I found it incredibly slippery today...I feel her horror when she fell, would be like slow motion!
Kamala enjoyed every minute of her swearing in! Let’s hope they can work together & heal their country.
@boxplayer tell me about it.... I have only just managed to convince her that walking across the ploughed fields (usually without the phone of course) on her own is perhaps not a wise move.
Oh how lovely to see one of your donks again !! No wonder he feels glum in this horrendous weather .We have also had rain all day ,it turned to snow and now we have a white landscape !!
Sorry to hear of your Mum's misfortune...I can understand her embaracement. .I would never be able to get up again if I fell ! !! Fav for Jack ☺
What a sweet photo - I can't get my mom to carry her phone either - and she refuses to let me get her a lifeline subscription. Glad to know your mom was not injured.
Jack looks so soft and gentle. Lovely shot of him peering out at your grey day. We were promised lots of snow today, but it seems we're getting rain which is turning the existing snow into slush. Ah well. :-(
Jack is clearly a sensible beast. You’ve been very diligent outside - I need to do some garden tidying but although it seems like a good idea actually setting foot outside in the wet wind is defeating me. Your poor mum - I rescued an old chap from under his wheelie bin once. It was full of garden waste and very heavy and I was about 3 weeks post childbirth and quite worried about lifting it myself. He had some nasty grazes and now I’m older and wiser I’d have insisted on seeing him into his house and checked him out more but he persuaded me he was fine. I’m glad in these socially distant days somebody helped your mum.
This is such a beautiful picture of Jack and well deserved place in the popular page. Fav of course
My mum had a tumble and unfortunately hurt more than her pride ………… her hip!!! Anyway she now has an Apple Watch because it detects falls and asks you if you need SOS. Also alerts emergency contacts. I have one to and so we can use the walkie talkie app which is funny. I had to switch the fall detector option off as I fall most days!
@lucycameron Oh no Lucy, I am really sorry to hear about your Mum's woes. Was it recently? I hope she is better now? The watch sounds like a great idea. I think I will have a look into that. Although given her form with taking her phone with her when she goes out, whe probably wont put it on. I am the same. I am forever falling over. Mainly because I rush around without concentrating on what I am doing.
@judithg You are right. She was really lucky that people came to her aid. They very kindly watched her walk home to make sure she got back OK.
@lucycameron@jantan my dad has a fall alert system which is great now he doesn’t leave the house and has been used when he fell over. Was a bit of a pain when he was still going out because he’d jolt it on the way out then the call service wouldn’t get a response and my sister had to dispatch her twins to drive over and check - they’d find his car outside the Co-op and head home (& no he shouldn’t have been driving which he annoyingly keeps saying now ‘What if I’d had a stroke?’ - well we did try & say!). Anyway the watch sounds ideal as presumably you can track where she is as well Lucy?
