Ada by jbritt

Ada

I didn't take many pictures today. I was ready to use one from yesterday but then I took a few late tonight. I picked this one of my cat, Ada, relaxing in our front hall. She had just returned after escaping through the front door.

She's lying on the windowsill behind me now as I process photos. We just heard an animal screaming outside--very scary--sounded like a fox or coyote attacking a cat. It alarmed both of us. Maybe that will keep her inside for awhile.

Both of my cats are supposed to be indoors all the time, but Ada escapes occasionally. I am so glad she came back in when I called this time. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. I have to find my other cat (Big) before I go to bed. I know she's inside, but I will feel better if I can see her.

Whew! Big just came to call me to bed; she's sitting on my scanner now. All is well in our house.

I hope I'm wrong about the animal scream ... Maybe it was just a cat fight ....
She does look scared! :)

Very difficult to capture expression on a cat's face with a camera. First you have to know what you're looking at. Then you have to be quick before they mask the expression with a yawn or a tail flick or something. This cat looks like she might have just heard a fox.

Fox barks sound agonized to me, so unlike the more mellifluous bark of a dog. Last month, early one morning, I heard a fox outside. To confirm it, I found an audio file online and played it. The fox responded. We spoke back and forth several times, until I began to wonder what harm might come from my technical intervention with more natural affairs. Here are the amateur recordings I played with. http://www.angelfire.com/ar2/thefoxden/sounds.html
