I would like to show you some pictures of a day trip to Krumau in summer. I would be glad if you accompany me.
Krumau is a small town in Bohemia, about 50 km away from the Austrian border. The historic old town is listed as a cultural monument of UNESCO World Heritage. It is located on the river Moldau, which forms a pretty loop and entwines almost completely around the city (you can see in the picture). Canoeing is very popular on the Moldau.
Until the end of the First World War, Krumau - like much of Czechia - belonged to Austria-Hungary. Egon Schiele, one of the most important painters of the beginning of the 20th century, liked to stay in Krumau. He painted very nice pictures with views of the houses

I haven't even heard of Krumau and would love to accompany you on your daytrip as it unfolds. I am sure it is going to be most enjoyable. What a lovely introduction.
thanks for the invitation! lovely to see this city I had not heard of. I had heard of Ergon Schiele...very familiar with his portraits and people paintings..the melancholy and pathos..but had not ventured far enough into his work to know he did these wonderful works on the local architecture. So particularly nice to learn about that, with the accompanying photos of that location today. thank you.
I look forward to seeing your journey in Krumau. I know Smetana's 'Moldau' well, and love the music but never seen the river. Krumau must have been well protected by the river during conflicts before modern weaponry.
@hrs Thank you for your dear visit, Helen!
Schiele is one of the artists I really appreciate. Unfortunately, his life was very short - he died at the age of 28 in 1918. So this year is 100th anniversary of Schiele's death. What he has created in pictures is one of the masterpieces of the beginning of modernity. His style is unique and can not really be assigned.
Schiele liked to stay in Krumau and thought of settling there. However, soon the small-towner were outraged by his unconventional lifestyle. After three months, he had to leave the city.
However, today Krumau markets Schiele to tourists: There is a "Schiele Art Centrum" in Krumau with pictures of him - but mostly lame reproductions. To see Schiele's pictures, you better go to Vienna. The Leopold Museum is home to the world's largest and most eminent Schiele collection ( http://www.leopoldmuseum.org/en/exhibitions/48/egon-schiele ). You can see there over 40 paintings and around 180 works on paper. Schiele's artistic development is very well presented there.
Also in the Belvedere you can see some pictures of Schiele ( https://www.belvedere.at/exhibition_Egon_Schiele ).
@golftragic Smetana's "Moldau" - a wonderful symphony. He composed it when he was already deaf... The course of the river as a splendid musical art.
Thank you for your nice comment!

The old town of Krumau is very well preserved. Unsensible conversions are largely omitted. The original flair of the city is still intact.
