This is a filler from the big surf day because my camera crashed. A minute after this shot, I was setting up for another shot of a beautiful big wave, when I realized it was REALLY BIG and it was coming right for me and my husband and we were caught in a little cove. I forgot the shot and we both ran for the highest rocks we could get on. Wave came up to about 6" from the height my feet were on the rock. Phew! We should have known better. At least a couple of people tend to get killed in the ocean near here every year usually because of sneaker waves.
I did the SAME thing! Heceta Lighthouse Beach - tide going out - climbed on the lower rocks to the right by the small cave - all set up and suddenly realized I was surrounded by water and the wave had gone all the way into shore. Thought I would be wading out but the moment I spotted sand below the rock I was on, I jumped down and booked outta there. When they say "sneaker waves" they mean exactly that! Very dangerous!
wow - we rarely get waves that big unless the weather is terrible - but certainly never seen a sneaker wave - sounds scary! glad you got away OK...this is a great shot
@changingtides me too. I'm not sure how often they come- often people get killed by sitting innocently on the huge driftwood trees and being pulled out to sea and/or rolled on.
