Another attempt to capture salmon spawning. This was at a different creek and we lucked out seeing one last straggler female and two males doing their last gasp. Sadly it was raining so I was tring to juggle camera and camera raincoat and missed about 3 fabulous shots. But in this one you can see the splash from the whip of the female's tail after she's laid her eggs. I was delighted to see that I caught her head and eye but sad that I missed the moment when her tail fins were visible above water. We didn't see any others and all three gave up the fight with their spawning complete and drifted down stream where we could no longer see them. Very exciting though. Best viewed large
I gave this a go a few years back with 35mm film...trying to point the camera in the place they might pop up and get the focus and then the right shutter speed...nightmare! it's an awesome thing to see
