Went out in the cold last night with my friend to capture stars at a new place. We wore about a thousand layers and used reflector sticks to show us our path back to the car. We got to shoot them from when they first appeared as the sun had just fallen into the ocean until the twilight blue was gone. I had a hard time picking which one to post. Best viewed large.
Thanks so much for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Just gorgeous! The moon and Venus! I saw them last night while on the freeway in heavy traffic. Wished I could grab a shot out the car window but worried I'd cause an accident since I was driving! So happy you were in the perfect place to capture it for the rest of us.
Lovely composition, Jane. I love your positioning, catching the reflection of the star & planet, and the overall composition. Interesting how the large proportion of dark clear night sky doesn't bother, while, during the day, you would have wanted some clouds to add interest to the sky. Great long exp capture!
OMG stunning, Jane! And I can only imagine you all bundled up! I barely managed 20 shots on my walk to the bus, thought my thumbs would fall off. Way to go!! WOW!
Congratulations on making the TT with this beauty. What is amazing to me is I like the more recent similar photo even better and predict TT for it as well.
@rvwalker I've been working on another of them for the upcoming camera club gallery hanging. Could you tell me why you like the more recent one better?
@jgpittenger I like the vast negative space in the latest one. It is cool having the stars in the first one, but I connect with the emptier sky. It is important to remember, however, that different people have different likes and dislikes. My preference is probably in the minority, as you can see by the bucketful of favs this one received. For a print, I would avoid canvas for either of these images because their luminosity is a strong point. Have fun at the gallery!
@rvwalker thanks Ross. Every time I look at the second one, I gasp...but I can't give up the stars. Maybe I will post my alternate edit one of these days. I'll be printing on luster. Haven't ever used canvas
