I am sure others who have been here for 10 years or so can relate to the sense that I can’t post shots that aren’t pretty good, I “should” be a better photographer than that by now. The combination of that “perfectionism” and rainy/ overcast days and no travel with COVID has made me really lazy about picking up my camera. I’ve been joining Matt Kloskowski’s “fresh Start” and this week he spoke of the need to practice if one wants to improve. So I am going to make an effort to shoot every day again even if the shots are less than inspiring. Here is my beginning.
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
A very noble endeavor Jane. This time of year in this part of the world the days are not very inspiring for going out much less lugging the camera. I feel your pain. So great that you are fighting it tho' and I keep telling myself I need to practice and shoot every day until my camera is an extension of my arm. I look forward to seeing your work here, cuz I think you capture terrific photos!
Great plan Jane, practice makes perfect as they say!
I find it hard to stay motivated at this time of year!
These blooms are gorgeous, love how they are all drooping down.
A beautiful shot. Good luck on your personal challenge. I would personally be very happy if I were to get as good at photography as you, however it is always good strive to get better.
These blooms are beautiful and lush. I like the angle a lot.
I’ve only been here a year, but am a fellow perfectionist. I’ve found it helpful at times to focus on making the best picture I can on that day, not the best picture ever. I hope your renewed practice helps you find joy in the process again. And I am frequently inspired by your images!
Lovely flowers to start with. Yeah, I know some days are just hard to get out and just seems like there is nothing around that I really like to shoot. At least we can get out down here and I try to get out as much as I can. Just can't stand staying at the house all day long. Good luck on your endeavor and I hope it helps. I too, really like all of your shots and compositions.
It is indeed a challenge to get one's muse to talk and share when its cloudy and cold. Mine seems to 'speak' in bursts these days. I do like the varied condition of the blooms, speaks to time and change
Beautiful capture of these lovely blooms. You are a brilliant photographer with an amazing eye Jane, I wish I could do a fraction of what you achieve in your shots. Good luck on the new journey.
My sentiment exactly. Being mostly subject to home confinement for almost 22 months now, I feel I've shot what there is to shoot around town and around the house & yard. I hardly pick up my dSLR now since it's big-and-heavy (and I'm old), my long lens for bug photos died and I'm reluctant to spend $500–1,000 to replace it, and my year-old phone has a pretty serviceable camera. But as I commented to Sheralee S — @bella_ss — in my “Mission Patches” post, I've invested too much in this photo-journaling to abandon it now, which means I have lots of “fillers,” open dates, and superlameposts … like completed jigsaw puzzles. … Like “Mission Patches” itself! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Your photos are inspiring, but it's good to search for perfection. I am constantly doing it, never satisfied with the result, because "it could be better" :)
I so easily relate to your narrative! This change of scenery has been such a boost. I've been out birding twice, out for a night shot once, and we're only on Day Three! I can't believe how much a change of scenery to something totally new is what got me happy to pick up my camera again. Good luck to you in staying with it. I think even if I were home, that commitment to daily photography ends up having a life of its own.
A lovely image, the colors are so lush and rich. I look forward to your posts, you have an amazing eye for everything you shoot. I’m glad you are encouraged to “practice” more, I’m sure we will all benefit from your endeavors.
