Seagulls Enjoying the Evening

This is so wierd. I just uploaded this and it was too dark, so I deleted it from here and went back and boosted the exposure a bunch and then re-uploaded it, but it is still too dark. Any advice? Best viewed large

I like the light. It reflects dusk quite well. Someone did mention something about colour profiles and getting a true representation on uploading. Can't quite remember the details I'm afraid but I guess rgb is the most common?

@fueast It was srgb. Wierd

I've seen a few comments now complaining that pics came out too dark. Didn't see why though. Lovely shot, the clouds match the sea.

I like it as it is. The clouds have a texture so similar to the breaking waves.

One thought re the too-dark color, did you re-save after changing it, and then did you select the newer image for uploading?

@anwan Yup

Oh well, that was all I had for suggestions!

Did you delete the original image before reuploading? Try using another file name before you reupload, the assigning a different title after the upload. Just trying to think of anything that could be duplicated.

Looks like it needs some brightness more than exposure.

@webfoot How do you think of what each does ?

It's just a process I go through when I look at each photo in PhotoShop. First I check the lighting to see if anything can bring out more definition.
Then it's brightness and contrast.
white balance.
B&W to see if it looks better in monotone.

@webfoot Thanks Paul. I usually start in Lightroom. I'm just not clear yet what increasing the exposure does vs increasing brightness

Play around with it a little bit on a non-essential photo to see what things do. You can always undo if you don't like it.
