This is such a fantastic place. We drove in rented jeeps 2 hours over a washboard road into this amazing site. There is a huge flat surface and on it are an assortment of rocks which have rolled in all different directions leaving their tracks. There are many thoughts re how it could happen but apparently no one really knows. I love a good mystery. Sadly people have come into this amazing spot and stolen rocks, brought in ones from other places, created their own rock trails. So it is no longer a untarnished mystery of nature. Each of us in the class found our own rock trail and watched as the light changed bringing out the trails.
Very cool! When we visited DV for just the day, I really wanted to see this but we were not going to risk it in a normal rental car. It's great that the class got you to some of the difficult-to-reach spots!
The stones and their tracks against the mudcracks are so neat, and i love the POV with the mountains in the background.
I'm glad you got to go there. On one of my camping trips I photographed two rattlesnakes along that washboard road. Too bad people are bringing in foreign objects to make trails. Here is a photo from my trip there, with a link to a second page. http://www.hisandhersphoto.com/Nature/hhonature_003.htm
Some people just don't have a clue when it comes to nature. I've been to Death Valley a couple of times, but never here. Would love to go there sometime.
@jgpittenger I do too. I understand there are even tracks that turn 180 degrees. I really want to return and get digital photos, since mine were on film. The road in was really something. We met a ranger on the way to rescue a guy who had four flat tires.
@rvwalker Yeah...we got home at midnight because we helped someone with two! We went in rented jeeps equipped with 2 extra tires/jeep and a total of 4 bottles of tire fixit stuff.
