I am so tickled that you liked my starry night shot at the lighthouse and took it to the PP. Thanks so much.
For my mentoring group challenge on natural light black and white. This is a reworking of a shot taken a few years ago that seemed to have enough texture and contrast to be a possible candidate for b and w.
Jane, this is really strong already. You've caught the details well. When I'm upping contrast, I use the following and just try to see if one works better than the other:
1. contrast slider in Nik Silver Efex
2. Tone Curve in LR
3. if the placement works, the rectangle filter in LR or the adjustment brust
None of these are anything unusual and you've probably already used them in the past. I find that the structure slide in Silver Efex is my best starting point for the level of detail I want, before I go to the contrast sliders or adjustments.
I knew this as soon as I saw the thumbnail. This and the whole 395 corridor is my backyard, kind of. About 5 hours away, but I go there all the time!. Oh, and wonderful shot!!
@jgpittenger oh, you will have a great time. The Alabama hills are great for pics, Mono lake is always good too. Look through my stream, you will see some shots of the area.
What an intriguing shot. I like the way that the image could represent anything from quite a small patch of earth/stone or mountains. I like this a lot.
