In the historic downtown of Flagstaff there is Heritage Square. It was once just a dirt parking lot now it is communities' cultural living room. There are eight custom-made benches which ring an outdoor amphitheater. Each bench is designed to represent a significant part of Flagstaff's economy or history. Those themes include the lumber industry as shown in this photo, the railroad, Lowell Observatory, the ranching industry and Native American heritage. Old train wheels as well as other reclaimed metal make up the benches.
Heritage Square now owned by the Hopi Tribe but managed by the City of Flagstaff is always a great place see what's happening in town.
@annied Flag is a fun place and my auto-correct has a wonderful sense of humor too. @gerry13 Thank you, I didn't like the vignetting from the polarizing filter but wanted to have sooc shot for this. You are very nice about history but your country has so much more and given the rest of us such wonderful things and ideas.
How interesting to read this and nice capture. @joysabin I see signs of a black ring in the corner of this picture and the one of Chloe - 3rd day ONS ... Is that intentional? Just that, I had this happen to me in the past and I couldn't figure out what it was... turns out it was the lens hood - I wasn't lining it up properly with the markings on my camera.
@jeffinvt Thank you, These benches represent the various aspects of Flagstaff, this one has many different native American symbols. My lens was set wide so the curve is a bit exaggerated.
@stephanies The vignetting on the upper corners is really not intentional but sorta works here, not so much with the shot of Chloe from the other day. My lens was wide and the polarizer filter showed up. I have a lens hood but I don't have much luck with it so it stays in my bag often.
