High Desert Claims Another by joysabin

High Desert Claims Another

Week 7 of the 52week challenge was looking for abandon things. This is a 20 foot dreamer catcher which sits off Route 66/interstate 40, near Winslow and Flagstaff. It sits as an 'eye catcher' for an old tourist attraction (Meteor City) which is now just falling down and being vandalized. This curio shop has had a interesting life. ( http://www.legendsofamerica.com/az-beyondwinslow.html) Sad to see this just being reclaimed by the desert on a slow basis.
B
yes, forgotten, the distant horizon and big space works well with fragile torn dream catcher -

@bfairfield Thank you so very much for the fav. I almost didn't use this because the catcher got lost in the background when I converted to b&w but then the desert takes things and swallows them so, it worked, sorta.

Awesome photo, nice back story. I drove that stretch of Rt66 a few years ago, which I could've taken more time...

Lovely shot with some serious weather in the background.

Great shot, what a shame though, I find it sad seeing it left to decay like this, especially as it is the biggest one in the world.

A great shot. Love all the tones and also think it is sad that the dream catcher has been left to decay.

It's a wonderful landscape -- a strong sense of isolation, but so nice with the dreamcatcher.

Superb shot, love that sky

This is awesome with that big sky. Perfect for the (sadly) forgotten challenge. Fav.

@lsquared Thank you very much, the romance of RT66 is a unique thing, some things are well done others not so much and have just not weathered well, like this place.

@365projectorgsebgritt This is an infrared that I turned B&W but the clouds were gathering due to a storm coming in from the south. The high desert is truly an interesting place.

@stephanies Thank you, it is a shame that this place didn't make it but then it is very isolated and everyone is always in such a hurry to get somewhere and not take the time to explore.

@megpicatilly Thank you very much, does seem that at least the dream catcher should be moved and saved, the high desert environment is tough on things.

@taffy Thank you, the high desert is full of nothingness and life at the same time.

@graemestevens Most grateful, thank you.

@kiwinanna I truly appreciate the fav, thank you. It is sad but I will shot more of it.

@pickerandagrinner Thank you, If you can, I'm told that the music museum ( https://mim.org/) is so worth taking the time. I am going in May, myself. Have a great time and enjoy the warmth. We (Flagstaff) are getting about 5 more inches of snow through tomorrow.

Fantastic shot of an interesting piece of history.

@blueberry1222 Thank you, this stretch of I40 has a couple of strange old things and this is one that stands out.

An admirable shot. It manages to catch and contrast both the serendipity of the dream catcher out in the middle of seemingly nowhere with the drama of the great expanse of threateningly clouded sky. Hats off to you.
